DIY Holiday Season Decorations Using PVC

The following projects all make use of PVC pipes, which are inexpensive to buy and easy to use – the perfect combination for DIY materials.

#1 – DIY Snowmen Ornaments

With these adorable DIY snowmen ornaments, you don’t have to wait until it snows to have wintertime fun! Whether you want to use these homemade ornaments to hang on your Christmas tree, to decorate garland that is draped along your bannister, or as adornments on your wrapped gifts, they will bring some winter joy to the holiday.

This cute, but simple DIY ornament project is quick and easy, and it only takes a few affordable materials to make:

  • PVC pipe (three different sizes)
  • White spray paint
  • Various ribbon
  • Hand or miter saw
  • Scissors
  • Strong glue

You can use varying sizes of PVC pipe to make snowmen of all different types – some to put on the tree, bigger ones to hang in other areas of your home, or smaller ones that will make your gifts and gift wrapping even more special. For the ornaments, 5”, 1.25”, and 1” pipe work perfectly, but you can definitely try different sizes.

The ribbon is used to decorate your ornament as a scarf and a hanger. Use different ribbon combinations to give each of your snowmen character and personality. Now you’re ready to hang your sweet little DIY snowmen ornaments on the tree.

#2 – Homemade Holiday Napkin Rings

When it comes to the holidays, there can often be an abundance of get-togethers centered on food. Whether it’s Thanksgiving, Christmas dinner, or just sharing a meal together with friends and family during the season, you’ll want to add some holiday décor to the dining room table. And it doesn’t have to be a grand centerpiece or cornucopia, in fact, sometimes it’s the simple and small baubles that make a house feel warm and cheery.

One way to add cheer to your dinner table is with holiday-themed napkin rings. These are easy to make with PVC pipe and you can use your imagination when decorating them to enhance your place settings.

For this project you will need:

  • 1 ¼” PVC pipe
  • Gold spray paint
  • Hand or miter saw
  • Wire cutters (if needed)
  • Strong glue
  • Small holiday-themed decorations
  • Cloth napkins

You can really use anything you want for the decoration on the napkin rings. Silk flowers, small pine cones, candy canes, ribbons and bows, small floral berries or mistletoe, and anything else you can think of that is the right size, work wonderfully on the napkin rings.

You can also make your napkin rings even more unique by using different colors of paint on the PVC pipe. However you decide to decorate your holiday napkin rings, you will be setting a lovely holiday mood in your dining room.

#3 – PVC Pipe Holiday Wreath

Greet your guests with a one-of-a-kind wreath that they won’t see anywhere else! This PVC pipe decoration will brighten up your front door for the holiday season. It’s inexpensive to make and you can customize it any way you want.

Here’s what you need:

  • Variety of sizes of PVC pipes (1” to 4.5” diameter pipes work best)
  • Gold metallic spray paint
  • Strong glue or epoxy
  • 2 drawer knobs
  • 2’ of chain
  • Variety of Christmas ornaments
  • Miter saw or pipe cutter
  • Measuring tape
  • Drill

This DIY project leaves you a lot of room for personalization. First of all, you can decide what size you want your wreath to be. Is it going to be made to fit a standard sized front door? Will you be hanging it on a much larger front gate? Unlike wreaths that you’ll find in the store, you can make this one any size you like.

You can also use a different color of metallic paint to achieve a different look, or to match or contrast the ornaments you plan to use. Have fun with this! There is no rule that says you have to only use one color of paint. You can add character and whimsey to your wreath by using a holiday color palette, or keep it elegant with just one.

Further personalization comes with the ornaments you use to decorate your wreath. The sky is the limit with this – the only thing you have to abide by is the size of the ornaments, which have to fit in the PVC pipe you’ve chosen.

When your PVC pipe holiday wreath is done, you simply hang it with the two feet of chain to create some beautiful outdoor décor.

#4 – PVC Christmas Tree

This DIY project has a lot of versatility. It’s ideal for both big and small spaces. If you have a larger room to put it in, it makes a beautiful addition to your live or artificial Christmas tree. If your space is smaller, it’s a perfect way to have a Christmas tree without taking up all your space with a real one. It allows you to decorate it with your existing Christmas ornaments, or you can opt to buy new ones if you wish. Your PVC tree can simply be leaned against the wall of your choosing, or it can be hung up.

Here are the materials and tools that you will need to make the PVC Christmas Tree:

  • ¾” x 4ft. x 6ft. Plywood – Oak or Birch
  • Variety of PVC Pipes – 1” to 4.5” in diameter
  • Gold metallic spray paint
  • White acrylic or indoor paint
  • Paintbrushes and paint tray
  • Painter’s tape
  • Plenty of epoxy
  • Wooden popsicle sticks
  • Variety of Christmas ornaments
  • Miter saw or pipe cutter
  • Tree trunk stencil (or your own creativity)
  • Mirror hanging brackets (if you are going to hang your tree, be sure to get brackets that will support at least 50 lbs.)

This PVC Christmas tree is unique and fun, whether it is your only tree or an addition to your other Christmas decorations. Change the paint colors or use brightly colored ornaments to give your tree a cheery look. You could also use gold or silver metallic paint for a more sophisticated looking tree.

#5 – DIY PVC Wine Rack

While you may have seen a lot of different wine racks, made of a variety of materials, you probably haven’t seen one like this. Not only is it distinctive and creative, it’s also far less expensive to make than what you would pay for a wine rack in the store or online. The great things about this DIY project is that you can decorate it any way you want andconstruct it to hold as many bottles of wine as you want. It also makes an awesome gift for the wine drinkers in your life.

Here’s what you need to make your own PVC wine rack:

  • 4” diameter PVC pipe
  • 1.5” diameter PVC pipe
  • Clear PVC cement
  • Hand or miter saw
  • Sandpaper
  • Spray paint

You can decorate your PVC wine rack however you want, with whatever color paint you prefer. Perhaps you want to match it to your kitchen or dining room décor, or if you plan to give it as a gift, to the décor of your loved one’s home.

Whether you plan to keep your homemade wine rack or put it with a couple of bottles of wine and gift it to someone you love, you can rest assured that it will be proudly used and displayed.
