Moving Day

When it comes to moving, most people will tell you to book your moving company early on, as the best ones are always busy and you really don’t want just anyone handling your move, especially if you are moving long distance.

However, the downside of picking a date so far removed from today is that you don’t know what the weather will turn out to be. Moving out is a complex and touchy process as it is, and rain will definitely not make it easier. But of course, it is not the end of the world, there is always something that can be done to amend it.

We reached out to Toronto’s premier moving company, Miracle Movers to learn how they recommend dealing with this nuisance. Here’s their take on rain on your moving day.

Pack Smart

Yes, there are so many things you need to pay attention to and take into account, but one more item on the list might save you a lot of trouble. When packing, have in mind the possibility of rain and take all the possible precautions to protect your possessions should this be the case. Try to pack everything in such a way that it becomes waterproof. In this way, you will be ready for your move, rain or shine, and will have one less thing to stress over.

Use Plastic instead of Cardboard

Yes, we are aware it is, first of all, not eco-friendly and second of all more expensive, but think of the damage your things might suffer if they are packed in cardboard boxes, and it rains on your moving day. You do not want to risk that, so it is much wiser to use plastic bins.

They are excellent protection as the water cannot damage them or get inside them if they are well closed. In case you notice the lid does not fit so well, secure it with packing tape, just in case. Oh, and you will still be able to use them at your new home as storage bins, as well as for any subsequent move.

Mark the Particularly Water-Sensitive Items

Ideally, none of your possessions should get wet, but there are those which will probably survive a bit of moist, and those which cannot get in touch with a single drop of water, otherwise they are doomed. So it is a good idea to put those super sensitive items together, in the same boxes, and to label them as such, KEEP DRY, for instance. Of course, before labeling them, make sure they are safely packed and protected, meaning they are wrapped and stored in the water-proof boxes. Along with a bit of extra precaution by writing the warning labels, it should do the work.

Call the Professionals

You will probably be using a professional moving company, but most of them do not offer packing services. If money is not your biggest issue and you are willing to pay a little extra, but to save some nerves, as well as your things, you can hire a moving company that offers packing services as well. They will definitely know what to do, how to pack which item to protect it the best.

Of course, your assistance will be indispensable as these are your things in the first place and you certainly know better which items are super important and precious to you. Besides the technical knowledge, the professional packers will also have suitable materials and containers to provide the best protection for your property, not just in terms of water and moisture, but in general as well.
